JANUARY 27 - In a stunning display of offensive firepower, the Cascade Badgers overwhelmed the Shelby Coyotes 77-36 in a one-sided high school basketball showdown Monday night. From the tip-off, the Badgers showcased their full offensive arsenal, cruising to a commanding victory and leaving the Coyotes scrambling to catch up.
The game began with Cascade setting the tone early, taking a 8-0 lead in the first quarter. The Coyotes briefly mounted a challenge with a quick 2-point bucket from #22, followed by a score from Badger player Peyton Hauk (#4) to cut the deficit to 10-2. The Badgers responded quickly, stretching the lead to 12-2 as Kaden Jorgensen (#1) added a quick score, and they never looked back.
Shelby tried to claw its way back into the game, with #0 and #22 each contributing baskets to make it 12-4 and 12-6, but Cascade continued its onslaught. A string of dominant plays from Badger player Tyler Lane (#2) helped the Badgers push the score to 14-6, followed by a free throw from #24 to make it 15-6.
Shelby wasn't without its moments, as #25 hit a much-needed three-pointer to narrow the gap to 15-9, but the Badgers were quick to regain control. Cascade outscored the Coyotes 24-7 in the second quarter, with multiple players stepping up. Lane's relentless drive to the basket, combined with clutch shooting from Lane Ethridge (#21) and Hauk, saw the Badgers take a commanding 42-13 lead by halftime.
The first half was all about the Badgers' balance and depth, with nearly every player on the court contributing to the scoring effort. Ethridge's three-point shooting was especially effective, hitting three shots from beyond the arc in the second quarter alone.
The Badgers didn't let up in the second half. With a 29-point cushion heading into the third quarter, Cascade continued to build its lead, with Ethridge sinking two more three-pointers to push the score to 51-16. Meanwhile, Shelby struggled to find any rhythm offensively, despite some efforts from #22 and #25, who each knocked down a three-pointer during the period.
By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Badgers had firmly put the game out of reach, leading 77-36. Cascade's bench got some quality minutes in the final quarter, but the team's starters had already done the damage, with Lane leading the way with several strong finishes around the basket. Meanwhile, Shelby could only manage sporadic points from a handful of players, including another three-pointer from #25 and a few late free throws from #22.
Standout Performances
The Badgers' offensive performance was highlighted by a team-wide effort. Lane Ethridge was especially lethal from beyond the arc, finishing with multiple three-pointers and key assists. Tyler Lane contributed consistently through the game, scoring inside and at the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Peyton Hauk and Kaden Jorgensen also chipped in with crucial baskets, making the Badgers' offense almost impossible to stop.
For the Coyotes, #22 had a solid game, finishing with several points. #25 also had moments of brilliance, including some long-range shooting, but the Coyotes simply couldn't keep pace.
Cascade will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup, with the team clearly showing they have the talent and depth to be a contender this season. As the final buzzer echoed through the gym, one thing was clear: the Badgers are a force to be reckoned with this season.
