Lead Contamination Discovered in Local Buildings

The Town has been actively testing for lead contamination in Wedsworth Hall, Wedsworth Library, and Town Hall. We now have preliminary results to share.

Testing revealed that the downstairs shooting range in Wedsworth Hall is unsafe for public use due to lead contamination. As a result, this area has been closed to the public indefinitely. The Wedsworth Trust is currently assessing how to fund the necessary mitigation efforts, with initial cleanup estimates starting at $26,000.

Wedsworth Hall upstairs is within healthy levels and can remain open.

Wedsworth Library test results revealed concerning lead levels, particularly hazardous for children. While adults are not at immediate risk, the library will be closed for mitigation. We are awaiting cost estimates for these efforts.

Lastly, Town Hall is still awaiting its test results, and we will update the community as soon as this information is available.

We sincerely thank Town employees and the community for their patience and understanding as we address these issues. As public servants, our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our community members. We will continue to provide updates as we receive more information and make remediation plans.

Thank you for your cooperation and support during this time.
