(01/14/2025) GREAT FALLS, Montana – This morning, at approximately 3:39 AM, 911 dispatchers received a call regarding a family disturbance occurring at 1700 2nd Ave N. Officers arrived in under one minute to find one person shot with a firearm.
Emergency medical personnel from Great Falls Fire Rescue and Great Falls Emergency Services rendered aid, and the injured person was transported to Benefis Emergency Department, where they remain in critical, but stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as 71-year-old David Martel, of Great Falls. Martel has been charged with Attempted Deliberate Homicide, a felony.
Officers and detectives spent several hours at the residence earlier today, processing the crime scene. They have concluded their initial investigation and have released the home back to the residents.
The investigation revealed the victim and suspect are known to each other, and although there were other people inside the residence at the time of the shooting, there are no other injuries and there is no threat to the public. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of those community members affected by this incident.
