Cascade Public Schools held their regular school board meeting on Tuesday, December 17. The meeting was relatively brief, covering only two orders of business aside from approving the consent agenda.
The first order of business was a proposal to approve a policy exception allowing the FFA group to host a KMON event on a Wednesday evening. For context, the Cascade School Board has designated Wednesday nights as “Family Nights.” According to their policy, no school-related student activities are to be scheduled after 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Additionally, it is recommended that no activities for students in grades K-12 be scheduled after 5 p.m. on those evenings.
The stated reason for the exception in this case was that the event is a statewide tradition that has been held for many years. This proposal was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously.
The second order of business was the proposed hiring of the coaches for the 2025–26 school year: high school volleyball, high school football, and junior high volleyball. It was noted that retaining these coaches would provide consistency for the school’s programs, as all have demonstrated strong visions for their teams. Board member Mark McKamey praised the junior high football coach, stating, “I think their record speaks for itself.” This proposal was also moved, seconded, and passed unanimously.
Readers are encouraged to review the approved minutes of this board meeting in a future issue of The Cascade Courier, as this is only a brief summary.
The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16, at 6:00 p.m. As always, the public is welcome to attend.
