Plans Spring 2025 Return
The Homestead, a local cafe in Cascade, will shut its doors for the winter on December 29, with plans to reopen in the spring of 2025.
The Homestead has serveed as both a social hub and a prominent business in the community since it first opened its doors in 2016. It is being temporarily closed due to lower traffic through Cascade in the winter months.
Pastor Mark Nelsen, overseer of the cafe, whch is owned by Canyon Life Church, stated that during the closure, “We're just gonna be brainstorming about better ways we can serve the community…and even hopefully, be at a place financially where we wouldn't have to close in the winter.”
Mark also hinted at some possible menu changes and special events at the cafe in the future, but at present nothing is confirmed.
“We're so thankful for the community support we have, and that we can be here in such a central part of this amazing community. We appreciate everybody's understanding and flexibility as we figure out how it all works.”
The seasonal closure underscores the challenges faced by small businesses in rural areas, particularly during times of reduced activity. While many residents will miss the cafe during the winter months, there is hope that the time off will lead to positive changes and a stronger presence in the community when it reopens.
