Strong defense highlights win over Bulldogs after narrow loss to Tigers
The Cascade Tip-Off Tournament took place this past weekend. Thanks to everyone who organized and donated their time-it's a great privilege to open our season with a hometown tournament!
The boys were excited to get started on Friday night as we faced a tough St. Regis squad coming off an impressive 4th place finish in last season's Western Divisional tournament. The game sure looked like a season opener as we played sloppy, but our effort was strong throughout. In the end, we made too many mistakes to come away with a win, though our hard work kept us in it. The final score was 42-45 in favor of the Tigers.
Kaden Jorgensen led the scoring for the Badgers with 15 points, adding 3 assists and 2 steals to his stat line. Peyton Hauk contributed 9 points, while Lane Ethridge and Trent Lane each chipped in with 7. Tyler Lane had a solid night on the glass, grabbing 10 rebounds.
On Saturday night, the Badgers were back on the court against the Great Falls Homeschool Bulldogs. The team played much better and had a great defensive showing. The Bulldogs fought hard and refused to go away. That sloppy play from Friday night reappeared at times, making it tough to build on decent leads. However, we gutted it out and did just enough to secure a 50-46 victory.
Kaden Jorgensen paced the team again with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Trent Lane had his best varsity game yet, playing outstanding defense while contributing 11 points and 5 rebounds. Tyler Lane chipped in with 6 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Josh Creveling added 6 points and 4 rebounds, while Ian McKamey scored 5 points, including a clutch free throw late in the game.
Our opening weekend saw us finish with a 1-1 record and a list of things to work on in practice.
This weekend, we're excited to enjoy basketball at home again. On Friday night, we welcome the Big Sandy Pioneers, with the JV game starting at 4:30 and Varsity tipping off at 7:30. On Saturday, the Sunburst Refiners will come to town for our first conference matchup of the season. JV is scheduled to start at 1:30, with Varsity at 4:30.
