The Cascade Lady Badgers Junior High girls’ basketball team wrapped up a phenomenal season with a perfect 8-0 record! After finishing the regular season 6-0, the Lady Badgers entered the year-end tournament as the number-one seed. With a first-round bye, they jumped straight into the final four on Friday, hosting the tournament and taking on the Sunburst Refiners.
The Lady Badgers dominated the Refiners, coasting to an easy victory with a score of 32-8. Emma Edmundson led the charge with 9 points, followed by Reece Hastings with 5 points, and 4 points each from Lindie Cummings and Kinzley Lord. Contributions also came from Kylee Cordeiro, Madison Jennings, Kinley Loch, and Zoe Butcher, who all added a bucket apiece.
This victory advanced the Lady Badgers to the championship game, where they faced a tough opponent in the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans. Although the scrappy Lady Titans put up a fight, they couldn’t penetrate the Lady Badgers’ solid defense. The Lady Badgers cruised to a commanding 49-17 win to claim the championship title.
Leading the scoring in the final was Kinzley Lord with 18 points, followed by Kylee Cordeiro with 15, Reece Hastings with 8, Emma Edmundson with 4, and buckets from Lindie Cummings and Zoe Butcher.
The Lady Badgers will bid farewell to a talented 8th-grade class, including Reece Hastings, Kinzley Lord, Vivian Byrnes, Emma Edmundson, Lindie Cummings, and Kylee and Kendra Cordeiro. Head coach Travis Edmundson had high praise for his players: “These girls are as good as they get. I would put them up against any in the state. They play as good a game as you can find, and that’s without me giving them much instruction. They know what to do and how to play basketball. They’ll play a big role in the high school program in the years to come.”
Looking ahead, the Lady Badgers will return Kinley Loch, Madison Jennings, Quincie Culp, and Christianna Buckdaniels from the 7th grade, as well as Allie Edmundson, Kassidy Cummings, Taerin Johnson, Annabel Calvert, Zoe Butcher, and Emma Jacobs from the 6th grade.
A special thank you goes out to Levi Jacobs and Angie Hastings for serving as assistant coaches this season. Gratitude also goes to the parents of these amazing players and to Jason and Lawni Raether for their outstanding work in scheduling and organizing the home games and year-end tournament.
