Who's First on Election Day?

It's Tuesday, November 5th-ELECTION DAY! I set out this morning to see who would be the first person to show up and cast their vote. It was still dark when I parked in front of Wedsworth Hall and waited. A few minutes later, a couple of cars showed up and parked, but the occupants didn't get out right away. It wasn't cold outside, with the temperature still showing to be in the 40s in my car, but it wasn't 7 a.m. just yet.

At 7 a.m., the guy parked in front of me got out; it was Lester Johnson. At the same time, the guy parked behind me exited his truck; it was Conner Barone. Then another gentleman appeared, whom I didn't know. As I got out, Hal McGregor showed up, all appearing at the same time-there to exercise their sacred duty of casting their vote for their candidate, a blessing that many around the world do not enjoy and that some here take for granted.

They didn't show up at 7 a.m. to be first, but it was the first thing they did before anything else today. Lester and the other gentleman were there before going to work. Conner said he stopped to vote before going hunting. Hal McGregor, who just turned 18 this year, wanted to cast his first vote ever before going to class this morning.

Whether or not we know by press time who will be our next president, it's important that we all participate in this process because it is "We the people" who have the power to determine who will be the best leaders to guide our country in the right direction. "We the people" decide! It's an awesome responsibility.
