Cascade Badgers Tame Harlem Wildcats

This past Friday, the Badgers traveled to Harlem with a well-represented contingent of black-and-gold-wearing supporters. The Badgers went to work on defense first, forcing an early punt from Harlem. On the first offensive play, Sterling Byrnes broke several would-be tackles and dashed 49 yards for the score. Kameron Kakalecik added a 2-point reception from Ian McKamey. The Badger defense continued to shut down Harlem's offensive attack with a well-rounded contribution from the squad, including a Kegen Vanek interception and 22-yard return. The defense gave the ball back to the offense three more times in the quarter. The Badger offense capitalized on each possession with a Byrnes 16-yard run, McKamey 2-point conversion, another Byrnes 5-yard TD run, Byrnes 2-point conversion, and a Trevor Standley touchdown run. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Badgers 30–0.

The fast pace continued into the second quarter with more stellar defense and big offensive plays, featuring another long 48-yard run from Byrnes and a 9-yard touchdown sprint from Standley that extended the lead to 44-0. As the half approached, the Badgers had one more offensive opportunity as time dwindled. McKamey took the ball on an end-around and flipped it to Brant Ligameri on a reverse. Ligameri sprinted 32 yards for the final score of the first half. The Badgers led 52-0 at halftime.

As the game progressed, the Badgers continued their dominance. Several other varsity players made their impact felt. With the running clock rule implemented due to the score, the remaining two quarters went by quickly. The Badgers added two more scores: a Vanek 20-yard scoring run and a TD pass from Isaac Edmundson to Cody Park. Final score: Badgers 64–16.
