The regular board meeting for Cascade Public Schools was held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 15. The atmosphere was tense, as several parents addressed concerns regarding alleged threats made by one student toward others. Parents also expressed frustration at not being fully informed about any disciplinary actions taken against the student. Some even claimed that their children were being disciplined for speaking out about the disruptions.
During the public comment period of the meeting, parents voiced their concerns in a respectful and considerate manner, mindful of both the privacy of the student involved and the school's staff. However, they made their criticism of the school's response to the situation clear.
"What's more important? Protecting a student that makes death threats, allegations, or the safety and sanctity of our kids that want to come here and learn? That would be number one in my eyes," said Stefan Götze, a parent from the Cascade community.
Alicia Poliakiwski, another parent, shared similar concerns: "At what point are we protecting [the privacy of] one individual student over the safety of 100 others?"
In response to these concerns, some parents have taken the precaution of withdrawing their children from school due to fear of the verbal threats. These issues have raised questions about the school's ability or willingness to address the situation effectively. The question remains: What actions will be taken to resolve this matter?
Readers are encouraged to review the approved minutes of this meeting in a future issue of The Cascade Courier, as this is a brief summary of the board meeting. The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for November 19 at 6:00 PM, and, as always, the public is welcome to attend.
