Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

For over 10 years, First Baptist Church, located at 215 3rd Ave N in Cascade, has been hosting an alternative to traditional Halloween festivities. With other options for parties, gatherings, and celebrations available, why has the church continued to invest its time and resources in providing an alternate celebration?

As a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church, the body of First Baptist Church believes that God has created all the time we are given. “Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years’” (Gen. 1:14). None of that time belongs to or is especially influenced by any power or realm besides God alone. He is omnipotent: “Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, and his redeemer, the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me, there is no God.” (Isaiah 44:6).

Our purpose is to glorify God in our actions. How can a Christian accomplish that while celebrating dark and sinister things like witches, wizards, ghosts, demons, death, and fear? Deuteronomy 18:10-13 says, "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, a soothsayer, one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who consults the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God is going to drive them out before you. You are to be blameless before the Lord your God."

The folks at First Baptist Church would be delighted to have you attend their Harvest Party on October 31, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM. There will be plenty of food, games, prizes, candy, and fun!
