Belt's Defense Stops Cascade

The #2 ranked Belt Huskies traveled south to Cascade on Saturday for some late-night football action. The Badgers won the toss and elected to kick. Brant Ligameri booted the opening kick out of the back of the end zone, and the Huskies started on their own 15-yard line. On 3rd down and 14 near midfield, the Belt quarterback was intercepted by Izaak Munski, who returned the ball to the Belt 34-yard line, giving the Badger offense great field position.

The Badgers slowly grinded their way toward the end zone with multiple short runs and passes, converting two 4th downs on the drive. They capped it off with a 4th down and 6 touchdown grab by Kameron Kakalecik. On the ensuing two-point conversion, Ian McKamey hit Kakalecik for his second scoring pass, making the score 8-0 Badgers. Belt drove down the field behind their powerful offensive line, tying the game at 8-8. After a nice kick return by Peyton Hauk and some small gains, the next Badger drive stalled on their own 35, leading to a Badger punt. Belt drove again behind their big front line for a touchdown, but this time, the Badger defense denied the two-point conversion, making the score 14-8 Belt. The Huskies scored again, extending the lead to 22-8. The Badgers had time left for a late first-half score, using McKamey's ground game and a long pass to Trevor Standley to drive the ball to the Belt 10-yard line. However, the Huskies' defense held firm, and the Badgers turned it over on downs. The halftime score was 22-8 in favor of Belt.

On the first offensive play of the second half, McKamey broke through two Husky tacklers with an impressive display, sprinting 50 yards to the Belt 10-yard line and sending an early second-half message that the Badgers had come to play. However, the stingy Husky defense pushed the Badgers back again. With yet another 4th down completion, McKamey found Kakalecik in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown strike. The two-point conversion narrowly failed as the Badger receiver came down out of bounds at the goal line. With the score now 22-14 midway through the 3rd quarter, the Badgers had regained some momentum. Belt, however, had different ideas. They dominated the remainder of the 3rd quarter, stalling Badger drives and keeping them out of the end zone. When the dust settled, the Huskies bested the hometown heroes with a final score of 58-14.
