The Show Must Go On

Cascade Farmers Market Continues in Spite of Severe Windstorm

Friday's Farmers Market was interrupted by a "Severe Thunderstorm Warning," sending all vendors scurrying inside the Wedsworth Hall for cover. The emergency alert came in at 5:15 from the National Weather Service, warning that destructive winds of 80 mph were possible, and asking people to take shelter in a sturdy building. The storm caused the power to go out throughout the town.

But that did not deter those who had committed to having the Farmers Market, come what may! Vendors started posting on Facebook's Cascade Community Page. Heidi Deshayes of RusticWood 121 posted, "Power might be out but there is plenty of beautiful natural light in Wedsworth for the Farmers Market! Come see all the amazing vendors; quite a selection this week and some really sweet food servers." Sandy Lee Harshaw-Irvin posted, "The farmers market is set up in the Wedsworth Hall. Come see us in the fresh rain. We’re re ready for you."

All in all, despite the unusual circumstances, everyone seemed to have done quite well.

Billed as the "Tomato Festival", this week's Farmers Market was sponsored by Northwestern Energy and the Upper Missouri Watershed. The Guest Gallery was the Sweet Pea Silversmiths, music was by Eric Bartz, and the food truck was the 4-H Burgers.

Gotta love Montana!
