Obituary: Steven Cabrin

Steven Michael Cabrin died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on July 17, 2024. Born in Great Falls, MT to Laurence and Rita Cabrin on Sept. 10, 1954. He grew up on a ranch outside of Wolf Creek, MT with his two brothers, and his two sisters; one of whom is deceased. Steven was one of the four generations to graduate high school from Cascade, MT in 1972. Steven spent his 69 years of life developing into the strong, loving, family man he was. He joined the Navy and married Sharon Baker in Chewelah, WA on Oct. 19, 1973. He later dedicated his life work on the BNSF railroad for 38 years. To the people he met and the lives he positively impacted during this time, he was known as "Steve". In fact, Steve was only addressed as Steven when his wife, Sharon, was mad at him. While working on the railroad, Steve raised three daughters, Nancy Sutton, Naomi Hale, and Nichole Jackson, and he then became known as "Dad". As a father, Steve helped raise his daughters to be strong, independent, all while being protective and loving. Soon in 1992, Steve went from "Dad" to "Papa" as that year was the start of him becoming a grandfather to eight grandchildren. Kyle Lee, Mariya LaFromboise, Cassy LaFromboise, Ryder Jackson, Shelbie Jackson, Harlie Jackson, Mattie Sutton, and Emma Sutton. Family was always a huge factor in Steve's life. From birthday dinners, to holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, or the made up holidays like the annual "wood cutting" party, family was always surrounding Steven, all the way up to his death. Steven had become ill with multiple medical conditions and made the decision to come home to the house he had lived in since 1980. Even during this hard time, his family honored his wishes and Steve was brought home to be surrounded by his family as they took care of him themselves. He even managed to have one last family dinner with everyone who loved him the most. He died in the arms of his loving family. Whether you knew Steven as Steve, Dad, or Papa, there will be a potluck memorial BBQ to honor Steve's memory on Aug.10th at 1:00 PM at the old Cabrin home now located on the Phil & Judy Wirth Ranch. Please bring your favorite dish as Steve loved a good BBQ. Military honors will be presented, favorite memories shared, and toasts to honor a man who touched many lives, and was loved by all.
