Honor. Respect. Rememberance

Memorial Day 2024

With the Square Butte as a backdrop and the warm sun shining down from the big Montana sky. folks gathered at the Hillside Cemetery to commemorate Memorial Day. It was a beautiful day, as even the wind cooperated. Cascade Veterans from different wars were in attendance, as they met to honor those who never came home, who made the ultimate sacrifice so that the rest of us could enjoy the freedoms that many, nowadays, unfortunately, take for granted, or are clueless. What a world we live in! Thank God for small-town values!

The service was opened up by Pam Marquis with a prayer and the Pledge. Ruth Mortag made the presentaion of flowers for the Gold Star Mothers. Todd Mortag gave a tribute to community leader, Iain McGregor, the tribute appearing on page ___. The gun salute was offered by Reese Mortag, and Hal and Rial McGregor. Mr.Skogley followed, quieting the echoes of the crackling gunfire, and soothing the hearts with the sound of Taps. Pastor Dotti Behling of the United Methodist Church gave the Benediction, using the hymn "America" for the closing prayer.

The Cascade Courier joins the community in honoring the memory of our fallen heroes.
