Every year the top track athletes from area B and C schools are invited to compete in the Cascade Top 8 Meet. In order to qualify, athletes must have one of the best eight marks in their respective events. Cascade qualifiers this year on the girls side included Seniors Braedyn Johnson (Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, 4x100); Juniors Sayre McElroy (Shot Put) and Sophia Mortag (800, 1600, 4x100); Sophomores Ashlyn Korst (100m Hurdles, 4x100), Kyleigh Knowlden (Triple Jump, 4x100) and Breana Sawyer (Pole Vault). Badger Boys that qualified included Seniors Caiden Sekuterski (Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m) and Brent Ethridge (Shot Put and Discus); Sophomores Brant Ligameri (High Jump, Long Jump), Rowan Konesky (High Jump), and Cody Park (Pole Vault); Freshman Kameron Kakalecik (Triple Jump), Peyton Johnson (1600m), and Trent Lane (1600m).
Caiden Sekuterski broke the meet record in the Long Jump (22’1”) and now holds the meet records for the Long and Triple Jump. He won both those events, and placed 2nd in the 100m. Brant Ligameri came close to a school record with his 6’4” high jump, winning that event and breaking the Cascade All-Time Sophomore record, while also placing 2nd in the Long Jump with 19’9”. Brent Ethridge placed 3rd in the Shot Put with a personal best throw of 44’11” and 7th in the Discus.
For the girls, Braedyn Johnson ended up 2nd in the Triple Jump with 33’5”, and pre-qualified for state in the High Jump and placed 3rd with a jump of 5’0”. Ashlyn Korst also ran a personal best time in the 100m Hurdles with 17.7.
