Cascade Public Schools Hold Annual Folk Dance Night
Thursday, March 21 was a busy day for the music students at Cascade School! We hosted our annual Folk Dancing Day and evening event for families. The students in EK-8 learned several folk dances throughout the school day made possible by David Casey on the piano and mandolin and Jennifer Skogley as the caller. It was a whole lot of fun to see our students learn new dances, review some they already knew and just have a good time!
That evening, our kiddos invited their families to join us in the north gym and dance with them. If the adults didn't know how to folk dance before, they sure do now, thanks to our students showing them how!
Some of the Folk Dances they learned included Sashay the Donut which comes to us from Duram, England and is published by the New England Dance Masters. They also learned a dance called Sasha, which sounds Russian, but really has German origins first taught by a Danish Teacher long ago. The Chimes of Dunkirk is a dance that comes from the coastal region of France where the famous evacuation of WWII British Troops took place. This region of France actually had the First Chime In Dunkirk installed in 1437.
And the favorite of our Kindergartners was Goin" Down the Railroad! They learned this dance in music class and were so very pleased to let Ms. Skogley and Mr. Casey know all about it!
We were so glad to see so many adults at the evening event-thank you so much for coming and supporting our kids, music department and Cascade School!
All in all, it was a great day and evening and we are looking forward to this event next year!
