On January 10th, the Cascade Leadership High School group and I attended the Great Falls Leadership High School "Education" day to examine the education system in Great Falls. We started at a local preschool, meeting with our groupmates to discuss our final projects. Once the preschoolers arrived, we split into different classrooms to read to the kids. I was in the special education classroom, so we helped the kids with their breakfasts and played with them in their play area. After this, we headed over to the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind to have a tour of their facilities. It was very interesting to see the amount of room they have to host deaf and blind children and staff from all over the state. Next, it was over to the University of Providence to attend a mock forensics lecture. The professor gave us a presentation on identifying the sex of a person using just their skulls. She passed around ten skulls for us to identify. Strong jawline and sloping forehead? That's a male. Softer jawline, upright forehead, and forehead indents? That's a female. After this, we took a lunch break in UP's dining hall, then headed to GFC MSU for a campus tour. Although I participate in dual credit through GFC, I have never seen their campus, and I was very impressed with their medical facilities for both their dental and nursing schools. To round out the day, we completed round table discussions with educators in our community, discussing what we have seen in our schools and what needs improvement. Overall, we really enjoyed the day!
