Badgers Enter 10C District Tournament As #1 Seed

It's tournament time! The Badgers concluded the regular season last week and will be working hard in practice to prepare for the District 10C tournament. The tourney is in Shelby this year and will take place February 14th – 17th.

A quick recap of the JV season: The JV boys wrapped up their year on Saturday vs Power. They played a great 2nd half, outscoring the Pirates 39-16 en route to a 64-37 victory.

The previous night, the young Badgers played a half game against Valier. Tanner Jacobs, Drake Lange, Deyton Raether, Conner Mann and Martin Bodnar were the only Badgers that played. The group's defense was impressive and they held the Panthers to just one shot made. The final score ended up 31-2.

The JV also competed in a rematch with the Belt Huskies earlier in the week. The Badgers had beaten them earlier in the season, but this time Belt was determined to avenge that loss. The Badgers played tough in the 1st half and we went into the locker room tied at 26. The 2nd half was not kind to our group. Lack of focus, sloppy play and a mountain of turnovers saw us fall 43-62. It was a good lesson for our team and a reminder of how much work we have to do in order to compete with the best programs.

Despite the setback, I am very proud of our group. They worked very hard this season and the results show their great effort. The JV finished with a record of 17-2. The future is bright for the Badgers and I am excited for their future Varsity success!

This year's Varsity team also finished their regular season against Power. The team finished up with a dominating 65-34 win. Kaden Jorgensen scored 21. He hit 3 triples in the contest and also pulled down 7 rebounds. The big men dominated the paint. Gavin Gilham finished the season with 6 double doubles. He had 17 points and 14 rebounds against the Pirates. Brent Ethridge posted his 7th double double, he had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Ian Mckamey had a nice night scoring 11 off the bench.

The night before was also successful, the Badgers took care of Valier's varsity squad with a 70-27 win. Kaden Jorgensen was on fire, he hit 5 threes and scored 21. Gavin Gilham scored 11 and added 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Seth Mckamey got the Senior night start and scored 9 in the contest.

The Badgers finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-3. We went unbeaten (12-0) in conference play and will enter the 10C tournament as the #1 seed. Our first tournament game will be Thursday, February 15th in Shelby at 4 pm. If we win Thursday, we will have the opportunity to play for the 1st District championship in school history! The championship game is Saturday night at 5:30 pm.
