The Badger boys hit the court on Tuesday, December 19th and welcomed the Class B Shelby Coyotes for a couple of games before the long holiday break.
The JV squads faced off first and the Badgers found themselves in a defensive battle early. The Coyote JV held us to our lowest scoring quarter of the season, and we ended the 1st period down 7-9. An 11- point 2nd quarter had our boys back on track, and we took an 18-15 lead into halftime. The 2nd half our Badgers found the hoop a bit more and added 21 to the total, while winning each quarter narrowly. The final buzzer sounded with the JV squad on the receiving end of a hard fought 39-34 victory.
Trent Lane found himself in foul trouble early but scored 6 critical 2nd half points and added 6 rebounds. Lane Ethridge added 13 points, while also contributing 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. Josh Creveling scored 9 and had 3 steals. Deyton Raether made 2 crunch time buckets and added 4. Conner Mann finished with 7 rebounds.
The win puts the Badger JV's record at 4-1 for the season.
The Varsity boys faced off next and the Coyotes showed off some hot shooting in what proved to be a challenging game for our Badgers. The boys got plenty of open looks, but a rare rough shooting night doomed us in the end and we lost our first contest of the season by a score of 48-61.
Gavin Gilham led the Badgers with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Caiden Sekuterski scored 10 and Brent Ethridge added 8 along with 7 rebounds. Tyler Lane scored 6 and had 8 rebounds to go along with 4 blocks.
The loss puts our Varsity at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. We will have another crack at the Coyotes when we travel to Shelby on January 25th.
The holiday break will confine the Badgers to the practice court until our next game on January 5th at Heart Butte.
