Belt News: Aim Higher

Aim Higher is a MHSA sponsored program started in 1989 as a drug and substance abuse prevention program. It has grown over the years to become a forum for young leaders to make a difference in their schools and communities. Participating school send two student leaders from each high school class to attend.

On December 6th, Belt students went to Great Falls for the experience and to share ideas with students from a round the region.

Seniors Jeremy Nebel and Trinity Tinsen were chosen, juniors Declan Bergstrom and Macy Brigmon were Belt’s upperclassmen, while Livie King and Blake Waldner represented the sophomores and Grahm Halley and Maren Keaster were the rookies on the trip.

The program over the years has transitioned its focuses and has turned the system to be more focused on leadership, sportsmanship, and making overall good choices.

Students who participate in the program attended classes including various workshops learning about how to be a leader and have a positive impact when they returned from the trip. Students are informed on the many lasting results of what substance abuse can do to an individual.

After completing the series of events the group came back to the school to share what they learned about leadership. They were expected to have leadership skills and be able to better handle situations in and outside of the classroom.

The Belt kids attended this event as part of the M.B. I. program and were chaperoned by Mrs. Pimperton. As Macy Brigmon noted, “it was both inspirational and beneficial for us all.”
