Junior High Badgers End Season Strong

The Cascade Badger Junior High Football Team concluded their season last Thursday against division foe, the Ennis Mustangs. The Badgers came away victorious in the defensive battle on a wet day, scoring a 6-0 win.

Defense was the story of the game for both sides all day long as neither offense could get much going in the 1st half. The Badgers held the Mustang offense in check allowing minimal gains while forcing four turnovers in the half. Isaac Edmundson intercepted two passes while Lane McKamey and Jason Brooks each recovered Mustang fumbles. Kooper Coates led the defensive push that pressured Mustang rushers and passers all day.

The 2nd half was the same story until late in the 3rd quarter when the Badgers were able to put a drive together. The main play of the drive came when the Badgers appeared to empty the playbook, going to a guard out play where Edmundson was able to connect to Coates for a 30-yard catch and run. The reception was Coates' first of the season and took the Badgers down to the 6-yard line. From there, Edmundson picked up several key blocks and put the ball in the end zone on a 5-yard bootleg run early in the 4th quarter.

The lone Badger score proved to be decisive as the Badger defense continued their dominant performance. The Badger defense forced two more turnovers with Brooks coming away with another fumble recovery and Edmundson intercepting one last Mustang pass to seal the win. The win improved the Badgers record to 5-2 on the season.
