As the 2024 hunting season kicks off, Belt students are already finding success. In this issue, the Valley Voice will focus on antelope, mule deer, whitetail deer, and elk. There are a few notable events on the horizon at Belt School. Next Friday, November 1st, the Belt School Library will hold its annual Book Fair. This is a great opportunity for students and their parents to share their love of reading and let books open up whole new worlds for young people. Belt became a town in 1885. It was founded by John Castner. The original Belt water system was built in 1909 and has been modified and fixed over the past few years. Over the past few years, there have been many failures with the outdated system. The water line had to be stopped to fix these problems. The town’s engineering consultant is Great West Engineering, which has been working with the city for several years, trying to get grants to dig up all of the old pipes and lay down a new system. For the past 10 years, Belt has held a BFT Basket Raffle to raise money for scholarships for BVHS students who want to become teachers. BFT stands for the Belt Federation of Teachers. Typically, BFT awards two $500 scholarships to high school seniors or college students from Belt each year. Currently, their only fundraiser is the Basket Raffle. Belt Valley High School is currently a class C school. Last year's senior class had 24 students who left, and the incoming freshman class had 23 students. This year, there is a fairly small senior class comprising only 17 students. Once they graduate, the student population from kindergarten through next year's seniors will range anywhere from 25 to 30 students. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Belt High Cheerleaders are joining in the national movement. Saturday, October 12th has been designated as Pink Out Night in Belt. Everyone is encouraged to join in by buying a T-shirt in support of the cause. Over the past two weeks, the Husky basketball teams finished out the regular season of conference play against the DGSG Bearcats, Hobson-Moore Titans, Roy-Winifred Outlaws, and Winnett Grass-Range Rams, and now look towards the District 8C Tournament. The Lady Huskies competed last night against the Hobson-Moore Lady Titans in the first round of play, and managed a victory. The students of the Belt DECA chapter returned from competition at the state career development conference (SCDC) in Missoula last Tuesday. The state event ran the course of three full days of competitions and fun events including performances by the likes of magician Michael Kent and country singer Stephanie Quayle. Recently, the Belt High School FFA Agricultural sales team traveled to Cascade MT. The reason for this trip was for students Kate and Mac Hedstrom, Parker Osterman, and Vannie Urick to attend a sales contest to see how they are placing across the district. Reese Paulson and Ethan Triplett have made the roster for the Montana East West Shrine Game's East All-Stars, Paulson as outside linebacker, and Triplett as safety. Aim Higher is a MHSA sponsored program started in 1989 as a drug and substance abuse prevention program. It has grown over the years to become a forum for young leaders to make a difference in their schools and communities. June 22nd, 2022 was a major day for Belt native Jeff Fleming. On this day Fleming was appointed bishop of eastern Montana diocese. Fleming is now one of the only 441 Bishops in the United States and one of the two in Montana.
