Wheels of Harmony, an Indigenous singing group with Intermountain Opera Bozeman, treated Cascade Public Schools last Wednesday with their presentation of opera, classical music and indigenous programming. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny spring day, and everyone loves a parade! Wolf Creek, Montana was again teeming with people from town and the surrounding area for their annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, out to take in some rays and hang out with friends and neighbors. The Cascade Schools Music Department presented its annual Music In Our Schools Month Concert and Turkey Dinner on Thursday (Leap Day), February 29th. The cafeteria was transformed into a fine restaurant, with students waiting on the dinner guests and making sure every table was taken care of, better than in some places. Cascade School held its Science Fair on February 27th. The Science Fair was optional for all students this year. Seven students completed a project and presented to judges at the Local Science Fair. The 2024 annual election has two propositions that will appear on the ballot this year for the voters of our districts to vote on. The first is the trustee election. A public hearing on short-term rentals was held at the Cascade Public Schools cafeteria Thursday evening with about 25 citizens in attendance. The Zoning Committee was proposing changes to the current ordinance on short-term rentals. Currently, short-term rentals are limited to business areas, to existing airbnbs and those grandfathered in. On January 10th, the Cascade Leadership High School group and I attended the Great Falls Leadership High School "Education" day to examine the education system in Great Falls. The Cascade Government Class was able to have Former Governor Brian Schweitzer zoom call on 2/20/24. One of the class assignments is to write to Montana, U.S., or World government representatives and one of the senior students wrote to Mr. Schweitzer to ask him questions about while he was the governor. Over the past two weeks, the Husky basketball teams finished out the regular season of conference play against the DGSG Bearcats, Hobson-Moore Titans, Roy-Winifred Outlaws, and Winnett Grass-Range Rams, and now look towards the District 8C Tournament. The students of the Belt DECA chapter returned from competition at the state career development conference (SCDC) in Missoula last Tuesday. The state event ran the course of three full days of competitions and fun events including performances by the likes of magician Michael Kent and country singer Stephanie Quayle.
