  • Thrills And Spills

    Ray Castellanos|Aug 15, 2024

The road was dusty on the way to the Chestnut Valley Arena for the 10th Annual Cascade Pro Rodeo. The beautiful mountains in the backdrop were enveloped in a haze of smoke from surrounding fires. The parking area was filling up, and the stands were packed! Fans had been so looking forward to this, the highlight of the summer! After all, this is Montana, cowboy country, and this was rodeo! Wanting to "look" the part and fit in a little, I left my tennis shoes at home and dug up some old boots. I f...

  • Cascade Celebrates Rodeo Week

    Ray Castellanos|Aug 15, 2024

The sleepy little town of Cascade came alive this weekend, bustling with activities as it hosted the 10th Annual Cascade Pro Rodeo. Festivities began Friday evening with the Farmers Market's "Rodeo Weekend". The Market saw more vendors and more people, due to nicer weather and the rodeo being in town. This week, the Market featured the C. M. Russell Museum as the Guest Gallery. Cascade-Romero was the featured "food truck" located inside the Wedsworth Hall, offering chicken and fajita plates,...

  • Blocks

    Edward Martin|Aug 15, 2024

Since we’re in the midst of a presidential election, it’s time to remind ourselves that presidential campaigns are not general appeals to the whole electorate, but are instead the sometimes complex matter of assembling blocks of voters. Candidates talk about the ideal of all of us united as Americans. After all, our national motto has long been considered to be E Pluribus Unum, which means “Out of many, one”. In 1956, “In God We Trust” was formally adopted as the national motto, but the old one...

  • The Third Commandment

Steve Boettger, Pastor, First Baptist Church of Cascade|Aug 15, 2024

Most people are familiar with the "Ten Commandments" to some degree, but few can name them all. If you'd care to brush up on them, they can be found in Exodus Chapter 20. This is where God, through Moses, delivered His commandments to His people. God considered these ten rules so important that He wrote them in stone with His own hand. These basic tenets of godly morality were the bedrock of our national laws. That is why they have been traditionally displayed in so many of our country's courtrooms, classrooms and legislative meeting places....

Volunteer fire departments from Cascade, Ulm, Craig and the Dearborn responded to a fire at the Tower Rock Monday morning, towing chains creating sparks suspected of being the cause....

  • Discontinuation of the XCELL Afterschool Program

Levi Collins, Superintendent, Cascade Public Schools|Aug 15, 2024

I hope this message finds you well and the new school year is off to a great start for you and your families. I am writing to inform you of a change affecting our afterschool offerings. Regrettably, the XCELL afterschool program will no longer be available beginning the new calendar year, following the conclusion of the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year. The XCELL program has been a resource for our community, offering academic support, snacks, and childcare services for students after school until they were able to be picked up at...

  • Litigating Your Right to Know

    Montana Transparency Project|Aug 15, 2024

In our prior columns, we’ve written about your fundamental Right to Know and how it provides all Montanans with an important way to interact with our state and local governments: You have a Right to Know how your government makes decisions, spends money, and conducts its business, and you can get that information by simply asking the most relevant state or local agency (and we’d love to help you do so!). Much of the time, Montanans can make requests and receive information with no personal cost. But as hinted in our last column about the dan...

Hundreds gathered at Central Park Great Falls Fairgrounds Monday for a Celebration of Life, honoring Cascade's Montana Cowboy Hall of Famer, Myrle Allon Gollaher who passed away this past June. Godspeed my friend. You will be missed!...
